Keep in mind that the wire use to set up the underground pet fence is Important. A Burial Approved Wire is more preferred when it comes to longevity.. Use only long lasting waterproof Polyurethane Coated wire with solid copper core.

Should I Use 18-gauge or 20-gauge wire?

Manufacturers of underground pet fence systems recommend using 20 gauge wire since their systems are designed to be used with that gauge wire. We ship all of our containment systems with Premium, Heavy-duty, 20 Gauge Wire. If owners want an additional 500ft. of 18-Gauge with the system, we offer a WIREUPGRADE option, which can be purchased with any containment system. Please see underground pet fence wire guide to determine the proper gauge of wire for the use. Remember, 18 gauge wire cannot be purchased from the local pet store or pet supply catalog.

Use 20-Gauge if:
» For smooth, loose soil or clay
» If laying the wire next to a fence
» The yard has few trees or vegetation.

Use 18-Gauge if:
» Rocky soil
» If installing the wire above ground
» The yard has many trees
